No wonder my inner artist is starving.
Ironically enough, it would have cost me nothing to have created it about five other ways.
I think I just like shopping.

My Inner Starving Artist Emerges
Good lord.
One of the headlines I’ve just stumbled across reads, “Who’s Katie’s Baby Daddy?” Even were I to have given half a flip previously, I don’t give a good god damn now. Learn to speak English. And when *I* say that, you know you’re pretty bad.
Sheeyit. Welcome to the Killfile of My Mind, rube.
Butsoanyway.
I’m off of everything today, but not really; I have to create a prototype of an interface for this ageing/gerontology certification (I’d pick one, but the program keeps changing the name!) that I was stupid enough to have participated in. Sigh. I *should* think that this is a walk in the park, but it isn’t; I hate doing the nuts-and-bolts stuff, because I’m not good that way. Working in the theatre has taught me that something like this is a team-thing, and I’m best off letting people tell me where to glue things. When I generate it myself, it gang aft agley too damned much. I am sure I have some pernicious brain disease that prevents me from fully comprehending the intermediate steps to execute the transition from Things I See In My Mind and Reality, but whatever; I suck at it, and need a spotter.
Pffft.
So I am going to do that today. I’ll phone Meg and see if she wants to go get a Tub O’ Guac with me for lunch, and I’ll go pick up all the things I need…and believe me, I’m going to try to get away with freaking *construction paper* and glue! I had first started to set out to get all fancy, either bringing it together in like Flash or something, but screw that; I’m taking the path of least resistance. Plus maybe I’ll buy paste instead of glue and eat some. :-D
Mwahaha.
I am a famous paste-waster extraordinaire. Hard to believe, iddnit? But really—I am. I think my picture may still be up in my Grade 1 classroom, on the Wall of Paste-Wasters. Believe it or not, I wasn’t a paste-eater; that was Troy, who sat next to me and did a lot of other really gross things. Sigh. Memories…
I know that I should be (snicker) “professional” and not take the easy way out, but I also know that there are others in this class who so far have done exactly what I’m preparing to do. And I’d rather sit down with kids’ art class supplies and do this and see if I can find something good on TV anyway. I’ve had nothing but full credit for everything so far, and I’ve really been doing overkill—at least in comparison to some of the things others have been doing.
Sigh. So when I fail this one, we’ll all know why. :-D Maybe I’ll get some glitter glue, too. Giggle.

Hey! Squoosh can go as O'Connor!
:-) sometimes well, sometimes not-so-well; this is one of the not-so-well times.
I have this ongoing issue: I can never remember the name of the damn store where I usually shop for my cats. It’s Pet Something. I had thought for sure it was PetsMart, but then I looked at their Halloween costumes on their website, and now I am not so certain. So I went over to PetCo’s site and looked at *their* Halloween costumes; some look more familiar, plus PetCo is having a “Howl-O-Ween” costume contest thingy, and I am pretty sure I saw a flyer for that the last time I was in picking up Measletreats and Squoosh Chow. Looking at their website (above), I don’t remember seeing the vampire costume in the store, though. However, after looking at it, if I can make it fit on a baby cat, that’s what the well-dressed Squoosh will be trying to squirm out of come Halloween. It would match his new, shiny adult fangs! :-) Previously I was deciding amongst a witch hat, devil horns, an elephant, and that was mostly it.
Oh, but I’m not done; There’s also another one that is PetBiz (?) and/or PetSupermarket, which I think is near me and I used to call “PetStore” ‘cos I couldn’t remember the correct name. But they don’t have online shopping, and the more I think about it, I think I don’t like them and don’t go there. So it is probably not them. I think. There is a real “PetStore” near here, but it’s not a franchise location (I think it is just a single store), and I don’t usually go there ‘cos they’re overpriced and don’t have a really good selection of cat stuff, though they have a lot of fish and snake crap. However, that was the place where I bought Squoosh his first Squoosh Chow (and he snarfed it up in the car in the parking lot), ‘cos it was on the way to the mall (I had to take Son-Friend to the mall). The name of it might not even be PetStore, but that’s what the sign says over the store on the face of the strip mall, and that’s what everyone calls it. I used to work near there, and that’s how I wandered in there in the first place. Plus there are a few smaller chains, not that I remember what in the hell their names are. Cross them off the list.
Butsoanyway.
There’s also a PetLand in the same shopping plaza that I usually pass by when I go to PetWhateverthehell, but I am pretty certain that I’m *not* really going to Petland and snubbing PetWhateverthehell; I think it is the other way around. I’m pretty sure PetLand doesn’t have crap.
So, via the wonders of the Internet, I’m of the firm belief that Squoosh will be getting his costume from PetsMart or PetCo.
And the temptation to just say I’m obfuscating is there, but honesty forces me to admit that I’m just plain old stupid.
In other news, I’m home early and don’t feel like working on anything. What a thurprise! Over the past few months, I’ve changed my style…I now spend most of the time slowly working, wishing I weren’t. I think I’m just burnt out.
And I don’t understand what all of the furor is over Bush’s nomination of Miers. On the way home today, I almost called into a talk show to ask them what their major malfunction is. Ok, ok…it was Limbaugh. What does it matter *who* is appointed, as long as they are intelligent, learned people who can dispassionately evaluate issues brought before them in order to better and defend our country’s laws? If that is the Supreme Court we want, then whomever is appointed can believe in anything that they want personally—it won’t affect their rulings, assuming they are worthy of being there. This seems to me to be symptomatic of the deintellectualisation of America; the focus, somehow, has become misidentified. Our goal should not be to stack the deck of the Supreme Court with people that agree with us (whatever position that may be), but to best construct and deliver our arguments (and ideally our actions and beliefs, too) so that we are Right and operating in the best interests of our country. And in being Right and operating in the best interests of our country, we will obtain a favourable ruling from the Supreme Court. In my mind, it works *that* way. Or is supposed to. It should not matter who sits on the Supreme Court, assuming they have merited the appointment. Right is Right, and Wrong is Wrong, and the grey areas get hammered out to the same ends regardless of who is doing the hammering. But I am left with the impression that most people feel that Right or Wrong is something that is in some way relative to what the Supreme Court decides—if the SC says abortion is okay, then either abortion is okay, or (and here’s the logical leap I’m not following) we need to get different Justices; ones that agree with us and know Right from Wrong.
WTF?
I have a better idea; how about Whomever Feels That Way (whatever way that is) going home, putting some study-hours in, and actually constructing a logically watertight, persuasive argument, one that is built upon actual precedents and scientific evidence? And, heh-heh, if Whomever Feels That Way *can’t* construct such an argument, they might want to take that as a hint that, well, they may be WRONG. Go figure.
But, were that to be done (on both sides), the prejudices these Justices allegedly have would show themselves easily (assuming they are there, which I personally don’t, but whatever…). Should these alleged prejudices *not* be there, the Justices would then simply evaluate the presented arguments for and against, and give their decision. And wouldn’t that be better? Isn’t *that* the world we want to live in?
Apparently not. Having things be truly Just, Fair, and Equitable seems to be too much work; it looks like Americans would rather that we just stacked the deck. Screw the fact that the only way in which there is True Equality, Freedom, and the triumph of Right over All That Other Crap is when an impartial SC is listening to well-reasoned arguments brought before them. When that happens, ANYONE has the chance to be right—it’s just up to *them* to prove it. Not the SC, not god, not mom, not their third grade teacher. So who cares who is nominated? They are either SC material (intelligent, dispassionate, given towards reflection, patriotic, impartial, fair, and just) or they are not; that’s the only decision. So I don’t give a damn that Miers gave money to Texans For Life—that’s a non-issue—what I want to know is whether or not she is wise enough to sit on the SC. That’s all that matters.
‘nough said.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
Well, some people around here have *finally* gotten the memo that the 2005 Holiday Season has begun! You people are only a few weeks late, nobigdeal.
However, there are some still holding out. You know who you are.
Today I passed the most phenomenal house on the way home—they have the house outlined in Halloween Orange lights, a (ginormous!) blow-up Snoopy in a Halloween costume, a (huge!) blow-up jack-o’-lantern, and a bunch of other stuff I have forgotten and/or could not see as I drove past. They rock.
I’m tired, but I’m happy; that house *majorly* cheered me up! And here I was, thinking that I was the only one who’d broken out the Nat King Cole Christmas CD. :-D
And check out these Extreme Pumpkins!
Meg has decided that she wants to go back to Casino Windsor; now, I don’t know if that means for a few days (i.e., over Thanksgiving mini-break) or for longer (i.e., over Christmas break), and I guess she’ll tell me later, but I’m up for it! I think she has some tournament over Christmas’ break, so I am thinking that she means over Thanksgiving extended-weekend. This is good, because it will give me an excuse to take a much-needed break, but bad because I have been looking forward to celebrating the holidays with Squooshable. :-) I have already more or less picked out his costume and everything for Halloween, and I just *know* he would love it if I made a turkey for Thanksgiving and gave him some. Or a lot.
I couldn’t put a costume on Romeo—he’d bite me and tell me that it was undignified. Romeo has a really short fuse for things like that. Squooshable is a little easier to get along with in that respect; if it involves food, Squooshable would let you do anything to him.
So I don’t know. I hate the thought of Squooshable spending Thanksgiving in storage. And I am even less sure about leaving him home—the Romeo and Weebie still hate him. Eh. I’ll worry about that later. For now, I’m just concerned with what I am going to do for Halloween; the last two years, I’ve spent it at home, just hanging out. And Halloween *used* to be my favourite holiday! Well, I was a goth and it was required of me, else they’d revoke my union card (Goth Local 666). So this year I am all ready to be old and do nothing again, but someone I work with wants to have a small get-together, and go see The Devil’s Rejects. I’m not quite sure how to bow out of that one and remain rudeness-free.
It has nothing to do with not wanting to socialise; it’s the stupid movie. House of 1000 Corpses was a total piece of stupid trash, and I don’t mean in the same good way that like, The Long Kiss Goodnight was a total piece of stupid trash (“Chefs do that!” “What—make bad movies?”; lord, that film wants audience participation *sooo* bad!) :-) Ho1kC was just damn *dumb*. The beginning was ok, and I guess the middle could have sucked worse, but about the time the kids were all hauled out into the field in FREAKING BUNNY SUITS, I was sitting on the sofa (at someone else’s house), clapping and singing “This is the movie that has no end…” And in that same part, someone was cool enough to put Crowley’s poem, The Poet (mangledly playing on the tape recorder) in, but then never did anything with it. How stupid.
And yes, I know Crowley ‘cos for a while I tried Alternate Religions before just deciding to suck it in and admit to everyone that I actually am just a boring ol’ agnostic.
Well, I had to—that goth union thing again.
Butsoanyway.
I was watching it with friends, and finally had to ask; “Why in the hell are they in bunny suits?”
Well, questions like that nag at you, you know?
So why *are* they in bunny suits? Easy. And I figured out that answer myself, too. They’re in bunny suits, ‘cos they’re not *not* in bunny suits. It’s this whole Zen-thing.
Well, it makes sense to me.
Ok, not really, but thinking about it any further gave me a migraine, so I took the Zen Easy-Out. Zen Easy-Outs work with all kinds of things.
Butsoanyway.
So I have zero interest in watching the sequel. Violence for violence’s sake is not ever “horror”, it’s mostly just stupid. But I haven’t come up with a good way out yet. Maybe I will just say that I have to take Squoosh trick-or-treating.
Well, it *is* his first Halloween.

Even more shopping...
They just let a *beautiful* emerald go for $601. As far as natural emeralds go, this one wasn’t too shabby. But the very next emerald they just put up looks like crap. It’s already up to $291, and I wouldn’t pay $10 for it. Oops. $391. Go figure. Some people will buy anything.
I have to remember to come back to Overstock Auctions (hence the Note To Self)…if I had the money to throw around on jewellery I’ll rarely wear, I could have just picked up a nice sapphire for $150. And next up…an incredible Martian’s Blood emerald (well, they can have pigeon’s blood rubies, eh?), and it went for $800. Sigh.
Butsoanyway.
I’ll try to keep the jewellery talk down to a minimum. On Saturday, I was talked into going out to eat with The Gang at a buffet. I generally hate buffets. I spend too much time dancing around other people’s children, who are dropping things, picking their nose and then dipping the boogerfinger into the chocolate pudding to taste it, and having food fights with siblings in the buffet aisles.
Look. Out. Stop. Don’t. Comingthrough. Stop. Damn. Oh, grabyourmonkeygrabyourmonkeygrabyourmonkey…
Plus the places are often dirty, or look like they should be dirty, and maybe the restaurant is hiding something by having just cleaned up. You know.
Ohhh…I’m bereft of hope. A similar yellow sapphire ring just went for $550. Ok, so I’m a cheap Jew. So what?
Butsoanyway.
So I agreed to go to Morty’s Meat Pit, ‘cos everyone else wanted to go. And I danced around the monkeys. It wasn’t too bad, and I brought home a big piece of steak for Squooshable and Weebie (Romeo doesn’t “do” steak—he only takes a bite or two). And I found out that Squooshable loves steak! He even sang the Boston Market commercial song (“Eat steak, eat steak, eat a big ol’ steer, eat steak, eat steak, do we have one here…”), he was so happy. I told him that he wasn’t able to eat “a big ol’ steer”, but he disagreed.
Butsoanyway.
The entire time we were there, they were playing 70s music, and they played Sylvester’s Mighty Real. Now, this was before my time, but I still love the music and I especially love Sylvester. I was talking to someone there about who could possibly do justice to a remake, and I *thought* the person I was talking to was following me, but then, when I asked him a question, he finally—after much hemming and hawing—did admit he had no idea what I was talking about. AUGH! How embarrassing! I probably sounded like a total fool. Sigh.
And I’m *still* trying to figure out why he was making that “Oh, yeah; I follow you—I’m totally interested” face.
Go figure.
And I lost my ring…if anyone sees the dork who outbid me wearing it, hit them. Hard.
That’s about all that’s new. I’m exhausted. I had better get to sleep so that I have tolerance for…stuff tomorrow. Eek.
